Map of Vietnam

Country Analysis Brief
  • Vietnam is increasingly an important supplier of oil to regional markets and may emerge as a significant natural gas exporter in the future.
  • Vietnam’s oil production fell in 2005 and 2006, after several years of steady increases.
  • Vietnam’s natural gas production has risen rapidly since the late 1990s, and is used for domestic consumption.
  • Coal is a modest but growing part of Vietnam’s energy mix.
  • Vietnam’s per capita electricity consumption is among the lowest in Asia, although demand has risen in recent years.
